What Nick Young Brings To The Warriors

Alongside hot-shooting, backup guard Omri Casspi, former Lakers standout Nick Young a.k.a. “Swaggy P” joined the Warriors in the off-season. And while many doubted Young’s ability to contribute to the already-deep Golden State bench, the young star has so far shown that he can gel with the team and become another offensive threat.

It goes without saying that there are a lot of egos to massage in Golden State, and playing time was the expected problem. But just a month into the season, Coach Kerr has found a way to insert Young into the rotation. And we’ve seen what he can bring to the team.

During the opening-night loss to the Rockets, and with most of the Warriors stars seemingly still on vacation mode, Young came off the bench with a solid, 23-point showing on 8-of-9 shooting, going 6-of-7 from 3-point range. He provided the swag, keeping Golden State in the game when Houston was threatening to pull away.

If this stellar way Swaggy P introduced himself to Warriors fans were any indication of things to come, then he’s bound to figure in the rotation more. And with Iguodala, McGee, Casspi, West, and Livingston surrounding Young, Kerr now has a reliable set of bench players to complement his starters.
