A good shooter is a threat to any defense since you it will open up spaces and the defender would have a hard time predicting whether or not your pulling up for a shot or will drive to the basket. To be a great shooter, you need to find your form and repeat it thousands of times until you get confidence in your shot.
Here are four drills to help you perfect your jump shot:
1. Groove shooting. This is a warm-up routine to get your muscles stretched. Work from the short corner at mid-range and start pulling up shots. Concentrate on your footwork and follow-through.
2. Chair pull-ups. Place chairs on the left and right elbows. Place a ball in each chair and stay low as you take the ball out, dribble once and shoot. Cut quickly to the next chair as a rebounder replaces the ball on the last chair. Do this at game speed until you make a number of shots.
3. Chair 3’s. Place a row of three chairs behind the three-point line. Sprint from half court and have someone pass you a ball as you get to the chairs. Shoot the ball without touching the chairs and as you go back down, backpedal to half court, then sprint back to the chairs. Perform on the right and left wings and in the middle.
